I have blogged here about prescription payments. But the main point is about ways to incentivise people to take back control of their healthcare. We’ve been lulled into state dependency at so many levels, including our ability to ‘self-care’ when it comes to health. GPs are overloaded with minor ailments – blocked noses, coughs and constipation. This costs the NHS massive amounts – in unnecessary appointments, prescribed and subsidised medication etc. A sustainable NHS cannot be achieved if we do not have the confidence, capacity and/or incentives to go and get some night nurse when that and some rest is really all we need.
